Every used outboard motor and JDM engine sold by Outboard Engine Hub comes with a 90-day warranty from the date of delivery. We offer this because we inspect what we sell and we’re confident in our assessments. It’s also just the right thing to do when someone is spending serious money on second-hand marine gear or an imported engine.

What the Warranty Covers

The warranty covers mechanical faults that were present in the motor or engine at the time of sale and weren’t disclosed in the product listing. For outboards, this includes internal engine faults, fuel system issues, electrical faults, and gearbox problems that existed prior to the motor leaving our possession. For JDM engines, this includes internal engine faults, compression issues, electrical faults, and, where a transmission was sold as part of the package, gearbox problems that existed prior to the engine leaving our possession. If a fault emerges within 90 days and it can reasonably be determined that it was a pre-existing condition, we’ll work with you to resolve it at no cost to you.

What the Warranty Does Not Cover

The warranty does not cover:

  • Damage or faults resulting from improper installation or incorrect mounting or fitment
  • Damage caused by running the motor without adequate water supply or cooling
  • Use of incorrect fuel, oil type, coolant, or oil mixture ratios
  • Physical damage, impact damage, or damage caused by dropping or mishandling the item after delivery
  • Corrosion, salt water damage, or deterioration that occurs after the item is in your possession
  • Normal wear and service items, including impellers, water pump kits, anodes, spark plugs, fuel filters, belts, gaskets, clutch components, or throttle and shift cables
  • Any faults that arise after modifications, tuning, repairs, or alterations have been made by anyone other than us
  • Motors or engines that have been raced, used in commercial operations beyond normal recreational use, or operated outside their rated specifications
  • Turbo, driveline, or ancillary parts not explicitly included in the original listing

How to Make a Warranty Claim

If you believe your motor or engine has developed a fault covered under warranty, contact us as soon as possible. Don’t continue running an item you suspect has a mechanical fault, as doing so may worsen the damage and affect your claim. When you contact us please include your order number, a clear description of the fault and when it first appeared, photos or video of the issue where possible, and confirmation of how the item has been used and stored since delivery. We’ll assess the information and respond within two business days with our recommended course of action.

How We Resolve Warranty Claims

Depending on the nature of the fault we’ll offer one of the following. Where the fault is minor and repairable, we may arrange for the item to be assessed and repaired by a qualified mechanic, with costs covered by us up to a reasonable amount. Where a repair isn’t practical, we may offer a replacement of equivalent specification and value. Where neither repair nor replacement is suitable, we’ll offer a partial or full refund depending on the severity of the fault and the circumstances. We’ll always discuss the options with you before deciding on a resolution, and we won’t leave you without a path forward.

Warranty Freight Costs

If an item needs to be returned to us for warranty assessment, we’ll cover the cost of return freight for genuine warranty claims. We ask that you contact us before sending anything back so we can arrange the most appropriate and cost-effective freight method. Items sent back without prior authorisation can’t be processed, and freight costs in those cases won’t be reimbursed.

Warranty Period

The 90-day warranty period begins on the date the item is delivered to your address, as confirmed by freight tracking or delivery records. Claims must be initiated within this 90-day window. Faults reported after the warranty period has expired will be assessed on a goodwill basis at our discretion, but we’re under no obligation to provide a warranty resolution for out-of-period claims.

Used Item Disclaimer

These are used motors and engines and we represent them honestly as such. Second-hand outboard motors and imported JDM engines may show signs of age, cosmetic wear, minor surface corrosion, or small imperfections that don’t affect mechanical function. These characteristics are normal for used marine equipment and imported engines, and aren’t grounds for a warranty claim unless they weren’t disclosed and materially affect the operation of the item. We describe our stock accurately and photograph it thoroughly so you know what you’re getting before you buy.

Australian Consumer Law

This warranty is offered in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, not instead of them. Under Australian Consumer Law you’re entitled to a remedy if a product fails to meet a consumer guarantee, including if it’s not of acceptable quality, not fit for purpose, or doesn’t match its description. These rights can’t be excluded or limited regardless of what any warranty policy states, and we’ll honour them in full.
